BlueBound Women is the first global community celebrating and empowering diverse girls and women who love the water.
We connect women across borders - online and in real life - to build confidence, visibility, and belonging in watersports. From first dips to lifelong passions, we’re here to make sure no woman feels alone on her journey.
Here’s the thing: for a lot of women, getting into watersports can feel surprisingly intimidating. You might be keen to try, but feel like you’re supposed to look perfect doing it... confident, skilled, and somehow effortless... even before you’ve really started. Especially if you’re a beginner, one of the only women in the water, you don’t have your crew yet, and the reality is cold conditions with full wetsuits, booties and hoods - not sunshine, bikinis and perfect bodies.

And that feeling doesn’t come from nowhere. Take surfing alone: there are an estimated 20 million female surfers worldwide, yet women still receive only a small fraction of media visibility. When they are shown, it’s often a very model-y version of the sport - warm water, white sand, glossy perfection. Many female athletes end up juggling modelling contracts just to fund their sport, while still facing unequal prize money and limited coverage. The result is a narrow picture of what “belonging in the water” looks like, and not many examples that feel relatable.
That’s where BlueBound Women comes in. Through our own research, we’ve found that 70% of women who do watersports take part in more than one, which means we have so much to teach - and support - each other. Sometimes, just knowing there’s one other woman out there who’s faced the same doubts, fears or barriers is enough to keep going. Through our community and events, we exist to make sure you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here for women of all ages, sizes, abilities, identities and backgrounds, wherever in the world you happen to be!

Our mission is to empower girls and women to get in the water, feel confident, and belong - no matter their age, background, body, identity, or experience.
